A 'wonderful old' village pub has been given the top score for hygiene.

The Rose and Crown in Chilton's Main Street was awarded the top score of five following an inspection last month.

The 'traditional English pub', a stone's throw from Harwell science campus, is a free house owed by the landlord Shea Keegan.

It is open six days a week from Tuesday through to Sunday serving home-cooked food and on Sundays the lunchtime carvery is especially popular with a choice of four meats with as much veg, Yorkshire puddings and gravy as you like.

The pub also offers lighter bites including a range of freshly prepared baguettes, sandwiches available at lunchtimes.

There is a also a busy pub quiz on the last Tuesday of every month.

A recent customer wrote on TripAdvisor: "Sensational Sunday lunch. Best ever. Wonderful old village pub, great atmosphere, good service, and the food was delicious."
