ELLIOTT Professor Sir John Died peacefully in Oxford on 9th March 2022. Much-loved husband of Oonah and brother of Judith. For funeral details please call The Individual Funeral Company on 01865 714130. A memorial service will be announced later.

I’m greatly saddened by Sir John’s passing. He was one of the most brilliant and wide-ranging historians of the past century and his work was a key inspiration for me and many others of my generation of historians of Spain and the Hispanic world. He was immensely generous in sharing his knowledge, advice, and hospitality with others, and a magnificent exemplar of scholarly collegiality and probity. My thoughts and prayers are with Oonah in this difficult moment.
