MONEY has been given to organisations and charities that work in Blackbird Leys, to invest more into the community.

Every year Blackbird Leys Parish Council awards grants to local organisations.

This year the council awarded £13,500 shared between seven initiatives.

These included:

  • Mothers 4 Justice: an organisation that aims to support and advocate for people going through the criminal justice system, as well as their families and dependents.
  • Leys CDI: a charity that coordinates a ‘Youth Project’, for those ages nine to 25, and the ‘Clockhouse Project’, for those over 50
  • Blackbird Leys Neighbourhood Support Scheme: an organisation that provides advice on debt, housing, benefits, and work-related issues
  • Blackbird Leys Adventure Playground: a playground that provides play and recreation facilities and other leisure time occupation for children
  • Oxford Polish Association: an organisation that seeks to develop new leaders in the community with an essential level of understanding the regulations, local policies, and fundraising
  • Dovecot Voluntary Parents Committee: a low-cost holiday activity scheme for vulnerable children and young people experiencing isolation or social exclusion, to access play opportunities and experiences that encourage and support their development.
  • Oxford Community Action: a community group that supports new and emerging Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic [BAME] Communities in the city, including delivering weekly food parcels to over 500 households
