THREE flood warnings were still in place on Oxfordshire rivers today but only residents in a west Oxfordshire village have been flooded so far.

Some villagers in Kelmscott have been forced out of their homes, but residents in other parts of the county have escaped the worst.

Many in Oxford and Abingdon have been sandbagging their homes in a bid to keep flood waters out.

The River Thames running through Oxford remains on a flood warning, which means flooding of roads and homes is expected, and properties off Botley Road and on Osney Island are under the biggest threat.

There was little rain overnight, but rain is expected throughout today and the Environment Agency said the Thames could rise by 10cm by this afternoon.

A spokesman for West Oxfordshire District Council said with the prospect of more heavy rain today and tomorrow there was an increased risk of flooding.

Flood warnings are also in place on the Thames from St John's Lock, Lechlade to Eynsham Lock, and on the River Thame from Thame to Dorchester.

The River Ray from Shipton Lee to Islip, near Bicester, has been downgraded from a flood warning to a flood watch.

Flood water was also causing problems for drivers this morning, with Burcot Lane in Berinsfield closed.

The A417 in Buscot, near Faringdon was also flooded, together with Clifton Hampden High Street, and Kennington Road, Kennington.

Rob Alexander, a spokesman for the Environment Agency, said: "We have had little or no rain overnight but it has started raining again now and will continue through the day.

"The River Thames is still rising and this will affect all the watercourses running through Oxford.

"We are asking residents to remain vigilant and make regular calls to our Floodline service."
