A prescription drug addict kicked the habit after falling from Blackbird Leys Bridge while high, a court heard.

Jed James was said to still bear the scars from the misadventure, when the 28-year-old appeared before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Monday after spending two days in a police cell.

Having been arrested on unrelated matters, which had not been proceeded with, officers realised he was wanted on a warrant issued by the court at the start of 2021.

Appearing in the dock wearing a grey tracksuit, James, of Cowley Road, pleaded guilty to possession of a class C drug.

He was found with 126 blue tablets of prescription drug flubromazolam, a type of benzodiazepine, on June 30, 2020, after he was the passenger in a crash in Oxford.

James admitted to officers at the time that he hadn’t been prescribed the medication by his doctor and was addicted to the class C drug.

His solicitor, Jayne Wilkinson, told the court that James had since got himself free of the addiction. “Last year he was under the influence and fell off Blackbird Leys Bridge. He is completely drug free,” he said.

He was now working as a labourer.

The magistrates imposed a six month conditional discharge and ordered James pay a £22 victim surcharge.
