Oxfordshire’s MPs have issued their support to King Charles III, following the monarch’s first address to both Houses of Parliament.
The King promised “faithfully to follow” the example of his mother as he spoke in front of 900 MPs and peers at Westminster Hall.
“As I stand before you today, I cannot help but feel the weight of history which surrounds us and which reminds us of the vital parliamentary traditions to which members of both Houses dedicate yourselves with such personal commitment, for the betterment of us all,” he said.

Oxfordshire’s MPs have issued their support to the King and spoke of their “honour” and “privilege” to hear his address.
Labour MP Anneliese Dodds, who represents Oxford East MP, said: “It was a privilege to be present in Westminster Hall today to witness the new King being addressed by both Houses of Parliament.
“Oxford’s proclamation ceremony indicated local peoples’ sadness at the late Queen’s passing.
“The proclamation service also demonstrated the new King’s links with our city. These include his engagement with the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies on Marston Road, and of course the work of the Princes Trust in our city.
“I wish the new King all the best as he accedes to the throne, and am sure we will all support him in building on these links with our city.”
Oxford West and Abingdon MP Layla Moran said: “I and the people of Oxfordshire were deeply saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
“I was honoured to be able to pay tribute to her in Parliament on behalf of the people of Oxford West and Abingdon.”
The Lib Dem added: "Now our loyalty transfers to a new leader, King Charles III. Following his poignant address on Friday, I have no doubt that he will take on the role with dignity and humility.
"Our whole country wishes him and his family well as he starts this new chapter, and our country enters a new age.”
Conservative MP for North Oxfordshire, Victoria Prentis, said: “It was an honour to be in Westminster Hall this morning to hear King Charles III address both Houses of Parliament for the first time as monarch.
“His Majesty spoke very clearly of the enduring example of selfless duty set by his mother, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“The past few days will not have been easy for him, yet he has undertaken his duties with strength and stoicism.
“I have no doubt that His Majesty will bring the same sense of duty and service to the throne as his late mother. God Save The King. Long may he reign.”
Conservative MP for Henley John Howell said: “I welcome Charles III and am pleased to be able to confirm my loyalty and allegiance to the Monarch.
“It is desperately sad to say goodbye to a Queen I have known all my life but greatly comforting to welcome the King.
“He will be a great King and we are already seeing the sure footedness with which he is taking to the role.”
Conservative Robert Courts, who represents Witney, said: “As we mourn the passing of our finest monarch and remember the remarkable life of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it is with hope that we look to a sure future of service and dedication from her devoted son, King Charles III.
“As with countless ages past we rally with the timeless words: God save the King.”
MP for Wantage, Conservative David Johnston said: “I offer King Charles III both my deepest condolences on the loss of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, but also my best wishes for a successful reign as our monarch - he has already shown in these few days just how well-suited he is to being her successor.”
