One man said he could see the smoke from a window of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, while motorists in Banbury said they could also see the smoke.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 10.36am and at height of the blaze we had seven fire engines, five from NFRS and two from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service as well as an aerial appliance and two water bowers and a high-volume pump from NFRS in attendance.

“We are still working to extinguish the fire but will be scaling back operations within the next hour.

“Three crews from NFRS will remain at the scene. The A422 near Farthinghoe is likely to be closed for some time, so please avoid the area if possible.

“There is a considerable amount of smoke from the fire in and around the Brackley area, so we encourage people to keep their windows and doors shut.”
