Cherwell residents are being reminded of help available to tackle cold winter temperatures and the rising cost of living.

The District Council is reminding locals of support available to those in need as winter descends and Christmas draws near.

An easy-to-use online map, highlighting close warm spaces and food centres is available.

The council has rolled out the warm spaces map, capturing almost 50 destinations across Cherwell.

These destinations offer residents a chance to escape the cold, whilst providing information to ease living costs.

Good Food Oxford also offers a map hosting foodbanks, community fridges, and larders across the district.

Residents can also reach out to the Citizen’s Advice money advice service that Cherwell supports to help deal with issues like debt and accessing benefits.

Immediate, one-off financial help is also available from the Resident Support Scheme, organised by Oxfordshire County Council.

Councillor Phil Chapman, portfolio holder for healthy and safe communities, said: "We know that with the arrival of winter, many people in the district will be worried about rising fuel bills and how this will impact their household finances.

"Our new warm spaces map will make it easier for people to find a friendly place to get out of the cold."

The council recommends Better Housing Better Health (BHBH) that offers cost-free, unbiased advice on energy efficiency and changing providers to save money.

The contact details for BHBH, the money advice service, and further data on the cost of living support can be accessed on the Cherwell Council website.
