Four projects which will benefit communities across West Oxfordshire are set to receive pledges of a share of almost £30,000.

West Oxfordshire District Council has pledged a cumulative sum of £29,416 through their 'Westhive' community crowdfunding programme to support the four local projects.

Councillor Joy Aitman, executive member for communities, said: "I am so excited to announce this funding.

"The four projects we have pledged our support to clearly have the backing of the community and if they reach their target, we think they can have a really positive impact in West Oxfordshire."

One of the listed beneficiaries, 'Cycles of Good', has already reached its target, unlocking £4,353 of funding from the council.

Kath Cochrane, from the project, said: "We are delighted to reach our crowdfunding target – a special thanks to West Oxfordshire District Council for their generous donation.

"This money will help break down the financial barriers to people using cycles for well-being and the good of our shared environment."

The other projects which are still fundraising are Cotswold Arts through Schools, Enriching our Community Through Theatre, and West Oxfordshire Play Days.

Ms Aitman added: "The other three projects still need your donations to get them across the line and secure their Council pledge.

"You can make pledge from as little as £2 pledge, which can make so much difference.

“Working together we can really make a difference to the lives of people in West Oxfordshire.”

Westhive can offer up to £10,000 in support towards community projects that require either capital or revenue funding.

Additionally, funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) is available via the platform, offering up to £20,000 for capital projects.

Actively encouraging innovative and impactful ideas, the council is particularly interested in initiatives targeting or brought forward by young people, with a separate pool of support funds reserved for such projects.

The crowdfunding platform in use, Spacehive, is a leading national platform advocating civic crowdfunding.

The partnership between the council and the platform is aimed at funding and implementing community-led schemes.

An information session will be held on February 28 for individuals who have ideas for projects.

This session provides an opportunity for them to ask questions, discuss and develop ideas, and learn about crowdfunding.
