A TRIAL has started for a man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl under the age of 13.

Shane King, 45, is standing trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with five counts of sexual assault of a girl under-13 and two charges of voyeurism.

The offences were allegedly committed between January 2019 and January 2020 against a young girl who cannot be named for legal reasons.

King, formerly of Cherwell Avenue, Kidlington, has denied the offences.

During the trial on Tuesday (June 26), the 12-strong jury were played a video-recorded interview of the girl speaking with police in February 2020.

She explained that the alleged incidents had been taking place for over a year and had started since she started ‘producing’ breasts.

“He would touch my back and my boob area,” she told police. “I feel uncomfortable [talking about it] but it’s best if I tell you.

“Sometimes I just push him away. I don’t want him touching me in that way.”

When asked for more details about the alleged assaults, the girl said: “He would softly stroke his hands down the back and he would do the area…the butt…and then back up.

“He was mostly, like, stroking it [sic]. I felt really uncomfortable. I would just push him from his chest.

“He would also go for the side boob area. It was not every time…it was mostly the bottom area.

“He would put them [his hands] on the side and normally start poking them but I would push him away.”

She stated that the touching would allegedly last a couple of seconds each time and that the only thing that had stopped King was her pushing him away.

The girl also explained how she came to report the alleged incidents to the police.

She said she had first told her a relative but stated that ‘nothing was done’ before she confided in another relative.

She said: “It’s been going for just over a year. I spoke to my [relative] about it…because I felt like [they] could me in the situation and help it stop.

“I told them] that I had enough of being in this position. I said, ‘Can you try and tell him to stop’.

When asked about her feelings towards King, the girl said: “Mostly I have hate towards him. There’s not really any love there.”

King is expected to take the stand to give his evidence later this week.

The trial continues.
