Pupils at a school in Oxford received a visit from Eastenders legend Pat Butcher this week.

Pupils at Mabel Prichard School welcomed Pam St Clement who played the iconic Pat Butcher in BBC's Eastenders to their school yesterday (Thursday, June 27).

She visited the school to share an insight into her acting career.

The visit came about after one of the school’s pupils, who is an Eastenders super fan, wrote to Ms St Clement.

Jack Gill wrote to his all-time hero to ask her to come and speak to pupils about her career.

There was much anticipation ahead of the visit which saw the long-serving soap actress talk to pupils about her time on Eastenders as well as her previous career as a teacher.

The pupils were eager to hear all about life on the Square and asked lots of questions about her career.

Ms St Clement answered all their questions and even joined in with a rendition of the well-known Eastenders theme tune.

Ms St Clement also delivered a stage fight workshop which the students "thoroughly enjoyed".

The visit was a dream come true for Jack who was incredibly proud to welcome the soap star to his school, and he even showed off his customer service skills by serving her a drink from the school’s very own café, ‘Rosie’s Café’.

The visit was part of Mabel Prichard’s careers programme which seeks to introduce pupils to a wide range of careers.

This term’s focus has been on careers in the creative arts and the pupils have also been visited by CBeebies musician Nick Cope.

Laura Hutton, a class teacher at the school, said: “All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed Pam’s visit.

"As we have plenty of drama opportunities in school, I hope Pam’s talk will have inspired our pupils to continue with their love of performance into adulthood.

“It is thanks to Jack that this visit took place at all.

"He showed real initiative in writing to Pam and made sure everything was ready for her visit.

"Jack was a superb ambassador for our school and should be incredibly proud of the part he played in making this visit happen.”

Deputy head teacher Tor Broadley said: “Our careers programme provides a lively and 'real' way of teaching pupils about the many opportunities available to them within the world of work.

"We are enormously grateful to Pam St Clement for her time.

"I cannot tell you what this meant to our pupils as well as our staff.”
