A charity providing special days for seriously ill young adults is set to launch a special Oxfordshire event with support from former England goalkeeper David Seaman MBE.

Willow, a charity which provides special days for seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40, is due to host the inaugural ‘Catch of the Day’ event this summer.

With support from the charity's honorary president, former Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman MBE, the event will be held at St Johns Lake at Linear Fishers on Saturday, August 3.

The sporting star will be joined by other special guests from the world of fishing, including Damian Clarke, Scott Lloyd, Tom Maker and Nigel Botherway.

Mr Seaman said: "As a keen fisherman, it's an honour to be able to host this event on behalf of Willow.

"Catch of the Day combines two of my passions - fishing and supporting Willow, an amazing charity which helps create lasting memories for young adults going through a tough time.

"I can't wait to get down to St Johns Lake with Damian, Scott, Tom, Nigel and some of our incredible supports."

Alongside some of the biggest names in fishing, guests will have the opportunity to fish in a 24-hour competition to catch the largest carp and catfish, with trophies for the winners.

Tickets for the event cost £500 a swim (two pegs), while VIP packages are available at £800 a swim (two pegs), which include an additional night’s fishing with David Seaman, ahead of the main competition.

Willow was founded in 1999 by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter, Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, as a lasting memorial to their daughter, Anna, who died of cancer aged 31.

Anna lived with cancer for five years.

A charity spokesperson said: "It was during these years that she, her family and friends, experienced some of their most memorable moments together.

"What Anna called her ‘special days’ became a focus for quality of time and quality of life, providing a welcome distraction from the challenging realities of living with a life-threatening illness and restoring some normality back into all their lives."

Catch of the Day is sponsored by Fishing Republic, Mainline Baits and Game Plan Solutions with support from, Korda and Frank’s Hot Sauce.

Linear Fisheries is a hotspot for fishing enthusiasts on the B4449 between Stanton Harcourt and Witney Road.

With more than 20 separate bodies of water, Linear Fisheries aims to provide a memorable angling experience for guests with some of the best big carp waters in the UK.
