A new senses garden has been opened in Wallingford town centre.

The garden is situated on New Road and with flowers planted last autumn but has now opened to the public.

Drawings of plants and animals from school children are featured on the garden’s information board.

A statement from Art in Wallingford said: “Congratulations to our young artists whose drawings of plants and animals are featured on the Senses Garden info board on New Road.

“The Wallingford Town Council team were there to cut the ribbon with town Mayor Dan [Beauchamp], parks manager Scott and councillor Steve Holder with his lovely dog, right on time before the heavy summer’s rain broke out and what better way to celebrate the launch of a new community green space.”

Deputy town councillor Mayor, Steve Holder said: “We had the grant from the Everyone Active scheme and this garden had been put in situ during the autumn last year and we were waiting until it had come into flower to be able to open it up.

“Now seems an appropriate time before the school holidays to open it up.

“It’s an open public space that was not that well used previously so we are hoping people will use it as another area to sit and be part of the community in a green open space which will hopefully help with their well being.”
