The question "beer garden?" acts as a sort of incantation to a Brit, as very few can resist it.

When the weather is glorious and you haven't got work tomorrow (or if you do), the idea of sitting in a stunning beer garden and ignoring life's miseries can prove all but too tempting.

But it purely depends on the pub.

We've all been there, sat outside in the shadows looking upwards and hoping the sun would somehow creep its way around the awkwardly positioned pub.

Head of the River pub gets new major makeover

The Head of the River on Folly Bridge reopened in May following a transformative refurbishment which spanned several months.

David Oram, general manager of the watering hole said: “I’m delighted to reopen The Head of the River fully.

“Our beautiful riverside dining area, bar and garden reopened earlier in the spring and it’s been wonderful seeing so many people back dining and drinking with us.

“But now we can offer the full experience with newly refurbished bedrooms.

The Head of the River also has a new food menu featuring dishes with seasonal and fresh ingredients.

Alongside pub classics such as fish and chips, the menu features grill dishes such as tandoori lamb kebabs, and miso cauliflower and celeriac kebabs served with a choice of sides.
