A new pizza takeaway is opening soon in Abingdon.

Signs have gone up at a shop unit in Ock Street announcing that Tumazo Pizza will open on Friday, July 26 with some special offers for customers.

Ock Street is home to a number of takeaways including Reeves fish and chip shop and Domino's pizza.

The unit being taken over by Tumazo Pizza was previously occupied by Pizza Hut, which closed last year.

Pizza Hut traded at 182 Ock Street for a number of years before it closed, and the shop unit is on the opposite side of the street to Domino's.

Pizza Hut closed in Abingdon in June last year.

“Responding to an ever-shifting consumer landscape and to meet Pizza Hut’s growth ambitions in the UK, our business and operating models are evolving.

"We are confident in the ongoing success of one of Britain’s favourite businesses and we’re looking forward to sharing more details about our growth plans in due course.”

In 2020 Pizza Hut announced that it would be closing 29 restaurants, cutting 450 jobs. This included the branch on George Street in Oxford.

Pizza Hut blamed the closures in 2020 on the impact of Covid on the hospitality sector.

Papa Johns in The Square in Abingdon also sells pizza, and there is a Pizza Express restaurant in Stert Street.
