Plans have been submitted by the University of Oxford to extend one of the oldest buildings at Magdalen College.
The Old Kitchen Bar dates back to the 1300s and is the former location of the college kitchens.
The university has applied to add a new ‘river room’ to the bar to provide an “enhanced social hub and informal space for work”.

It comes after the college commissioned a ‘Riverside Project’ master plan in 2021.
A planning document reads: “This reinforced the importance of the Old Kitchen Bar as the social hub of the campus.
“The process recognised that to meet both the growing and changing needs of the 400 undergraduate students, 200 graduate students, 105 fellows and 60 staff at the campus.”
The bar serves light meals when the college is open to the general public and is also open to residents in the evenings serving beer, wine and spirits as well as soft drinks.
