Last week year 12 students from Bicester organised and hosted a KS3 public speaking competition.

On Monday, July 8 two teams from The Cooper School school entered along with teams from Whitelands Academy in Bicester and The Warriner School near Banbury.

The teams were judged by Mr Todd from the English department, Max from Oxford University and Claire from Toastmasters.

Students Mia, Becky, Ali and Rebeca were among those who organised the event.

Mrs O’Flynn said: “The year 12 students arranged the venue with facilities, coached the team, arranged for three independent judges to attend and provided feedback sheets and score cards for them to use.

"They designed certificates of participation and even commissioned a trophy for the winning team.

"Not only did they complete all of this work behind the scenes they were also gracious hosts at the event - mature, calm and articulate.

"It is credit to them and their dedication that one of the Cooper teams won.

"I could not be more proud of them all.”

Mia, one of the students who organised the event said: “All four groups gave amazing performances, impressing us and the judges.

"We are so happy to announce that Leva, Mae and Aylin were the winners of the competition.”

The Cooper School is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in the northern side of Bicester, Oxfordshire
