Work will be taking place 24 hours a day following long delays caused by emergency gas repairs in an Oxfordshire town.

There were delays of up to 50 minutes in Henley this morning (Tuesday, July 16) following the emergency closure of Hart Street.

The road was closed due to emergency repairs to the gas network and will remain closed until an estimated date of Monday, July 22.

A spokesperson for British gas company SGN said: "We’re carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network in Hart Street, Henley.

"Due to the position of our gas main and to ensure everyone’s safety, we have temporarily closed Hart Street, between Duke Street and Thameside.

"A signed diversion is in place for motorists.

"We know this is a busy location, so our engineers are working 24 hours a day to ensure the repairs are completed as soon as possible.

"All going well, we’re aiming to complete repairs, restore the road surface to the required specifications and reopen the road as normal by Monday, July 22."
