A 23-year-old man has been left with a broken eye socket after being assaulted outside a pub in Banbury.

The assault occurred outside the Horse and Jockey pub in West Bar Street between 1.30am and 2am on Monday, July 15, Thames Valley Police said. 

Police say the victim was talking to friends when he was assaulted by another man who punched him in his right eye, causing a fractured eye socket.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following the assault which caused grievous bodily harm. 

Police say the offender is white, about 6ft tall with a stocky build and is aged in his early 20s.

He has short brown hair and was wearing a blue zip up jumper and blue jeans.

Investigating officer, PC Danny Gurney, said: “This was a serious assault, causing the victim to need treatment in hospital.
