A car parts company is searching for a Lego-obsessed teenager as it looks to hire its first toy car mechanic.

GSF Car Parts, which has two branches in Oxford, is offering this unique apprenticeship in an effort to address the automotive industry’s skills shortage in the UK.

The successful candidate will receive £5,000 and an unlimited supply of Lego, Meccano and other toy car-building sets.

Additionally, GSF has promised to support the apprentice throughout their school studies, and the successful candidate will be guaranteed a job in the automotive industry once they turn 16.

The apprentice will create how-to guides for other children and document their learning experiences through the brand’s TikTok account.

Steve Horne, CEO of GSF Car Parts, said: "We’re so excited to announce this incredible opportunity, inviting a budding young mechanic to join the GSF team as our toy car apprentice.

"Remember those childhood days of racing toy cars and dreaming of becoming the ultimate car expert? We’re turning those dreams into reality."

He added: "This is a chance to immerse yourself in the world of automotive excellence and represent GSF as we bring the next generation of talent into the industry.

"This one-of-a-kind role is designed to empower a young person with the chance to learn awesome skills in a fun and engaging way, hopefully sparking a new generation of talented pros in the industry.

"If your child dreams of a career in the automotive world, we’d love for you to apply."

Applicants should be available to take part during the upcoming school holidays, be eager to learn, and have a passion for cars and the automotive industry.

The scheme is set to last an initial three months, during which time the successful applicant will be expected to create one toy car model and produce one TikTok video documenting their building process each month.

Applicants must be children aged 13 or older at the time of applying and have parental or guardian consent.

No official experience or qualifications are needed, but a strong interest in cars and mechanics is essential.

To apply, teens can create a TikTok video explaining why they would like the role, and displaying a toy car model they have constructed. They should tag @gsfcarparts in the video.

An application form will then need to be completed on behalf of the child by a parent or guardian via GSF’s website.

Applications are currently open with the first vacancy window ending on August 9. The new hire is expected to start work in the Autumn half term.
