Concerns are being raised as a van dumped in an Oxford suburb for six months is now "leaking oil".

A Blackbird Leys householder, whose name has not been disclosed, says they have contacted the city council regarding the white vehicle parked in Cuddesdon Way.

The householder said: "This van has been parked in Cuddesdon Way for six months leaking oil into the road and fuel.

"Then three nights ago a driver turned up at 3am and started revving up the engine on it and it was reported to the council.

The city council says is is unable to do anything about the vehicle as it is taxed and "has been seen moving".

A spokesman added: "Abandoned vehicles are an eyesore and can be a risk to public health.

"ODS, in partnership with Oxford City Council, will remove them if their road tax is expired, they have been stationary for a significant amount of time, are significantly damaged run down or unroadworthy, are burnt out, or are missing number plates.

"The vehicle in question has been investigated but as it is taxed and has been seen moving we cannot classify it as abandoned. Unfortunately, we have no other powers available to take action.

"ODS' efforts to combat abandoned vehicles are proving successful, with a reduction in vehicles needing to be taken away.

"In 2022, 74 were removed. This dropped to 27 in 2023, and to only 11 so far this year.

"Abandoned or untaxed vehicles can be reported via the Council's 'Report an Abandoned Vehicle' webpage, through Fix My Street  or by contacting ODS Streetscene on 01865 249811 or streetscene@oxford.gov.uk."
