More than 60 people have celebrated the opening of a refurbished roof terrace and conservatory at an Abingdon care home with a cocktail party.

Guests at Old Station House were treated to summer drinks while enjoying views of Abingdon's skyline at the early evening event.

The mayor of Abingdon, councillor Gabby Barody, and Judy Feltham, a resident at the care home for almost four years, cut the ribbon to open the new space.

Louise Allen, head of care at Old Station House, said: "We were thrilled to have so many people join us at this rooftop cocktail party to celebrate the renovation of this wonderful space.

"It has always been a favourite spot for our residents, especially in warm weather.

"As a team we are incredibly proud of the vibrant, joyful community we've built here, and we want to quite literally shout it from the rooftops."

Jeff Denton, activities co-ordinator at Old Station House, said: "The roof terrace and conservatory give us more options for residents to enjoy the fresh air.

"I’m already planning new events to make the most of the space, including a Spanish evening and a Medieval banquet."

Residents and their families were joined by friends and volunteers of the care home, which is run by The Orders of St John Care Trust.
