A fresh plan to build 82 new homes in an Oxfordshire town is already seeing objections roll in, highlighting concerns around traffic "mayhem".

Applicant Annington Property would like to build the houses at Stanmore Crescent on land South of Upavon Way in Carterton.

The proposals were validated by West Oxfordshire District Council on August 5 and also include details of associated open space, car and cycle parking, landscaping, and drainage infrastructure.

A first objection letter has already come in from Rebecca Ranger, a resident of Edgehill Close.

Mrs Ranger said: "We who live on the Stanmore Crescent estates already have issues with parking, waste bins and traffic.

"These plans to increase the site by this amount is too much.

"The main access road running through the centre is already used as cut through. This extra demand on its use will cause mayhem.

"The junction at the end of Stanmore Crescent by the families club is too sharp and you can't see round the corner. It's a very dangerous junction and poorly designed.

"With the extra traffic this will bring, the junction will be gridlocked and no doubt accidents will occur.

"There is not allowance for enough green spaces for dog walkers and children play areas. The current play park is very popular and cannot accommodate this extra demand.

"The number of units need to be cut, the design plan needs to incorporate more open green spaces. Additional play park or recreation facility needs to be added."

The applicant says 35 per cent of the homes would be affordable and "the proposals seek to provide a high quality and attractive setting for the new dwellings".

A planning paper adds: "In terms of a development strategy for the site, we recognise that Upavon Way is a major movement route in this part of Carterton and is a reasonably busy road.

"We have assumed the Highway Authority would wish to avoid additional junctions and that further, they would not wish to see private drives directly gaining access across the footpath.

"This latter point is considered important since there is the prospect of a future cycleway."

Proposed materials for the homes include pitched roofs throughout, red brickwork and metal railing in key locations along the street scene.

The applicant adds: "The site is well-served in transport terms by existing infrastructure.

"The site will be accessed by foot and vehicle from Stanmore Crescent and Upavon Way.

"The site will also be permeable to pedestrians and vehicles with connections and linkages to other parts of the locale."
