A Chinese takeaway which closed on a main city road has now submitted plans to reopen as a restaurant.

Green Bamboo in Botley Road, which is listed online as 'permanently closed', is now seeking permission from the city council to open its doors again under the fresh branding.

Applicant Avtar Singh writes in a planning paper: "With access from Botley Road, this development makes use of all the services, which are available to the residents of this area.

"These include regular public transport, refuse collection, fire brigade and ambulance services.

"The site is also within a few minutes walking distance from shops, restaurants and other public amenities in Oxford city centre.

"The site has access to a variety of local services, facilities and employment as mentioned above and it will therefore be a sustainable developments."

The new development would include incorporation of four additional cycle spaces.

The applicant adds: "The proposed layout makes an efficient use of the land and provides four bike spaces for the proposed restaurant.

"The layout of the site ensures that the new development has no adverse impact such as overlooking, overshadowing, loss of privacy, etc. on the adjacent properties. The layout does not result in the loss of any trees."

Botley Road is the main road into Oxford from the west but it has been cut off as an access point to vehicles since April 2023.

Delays to the reopening of the road have led to suggestions it could be another year before it returns to normal.
