A McDonald's site is being redesigned for greater speed and efficiency in how people get their food.

The burger restaurant at Milton Heights Service Area in Didcot is now closed for nine weeks while it undergoes a Convenience of the Future redesign.

McDonald's embarked on the £250million upgrade programme at 200 restaurants and 800 conversions in 2022.

They aim to better integrate the sales they increasingly make online and through the MyMcDonald’sApp.

Some of the key innovations include changing the front counters with specific areas for different sales methods to reduce congestion around touchscreens, and shorten queues.

The introduction of a dedicated courier waiting area and entrance to allow staff to deal with couriers orders, alongside reducing congestion in the dining area to create a more relaxing restaurant environment for customers.

A new kitchen design gives a bigger order assembly area with dedicated areas to prepare McDelivery and dine-in orders, to help crew serve more efficiently and accurately.

Meanwhile improved car park layout with a separate parking area for couriers, and modified traffic routes will improve circulation around the restaurant so it’s much easier for Drive-Thru and Click & Collect customers to get their order.

Break spaces will also be redesigned to create a more relaxing and comfortable space for crew to take a break.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "The restaurant is undergoing a Convenience of the Future redesign and will be re-opening to customers in November."

More information will be released closer to its reopening, they said.
