Hundreds of people lined the streets as a historic funfair returned to Oxford for its 400th year.
The annual St Giles Funfair, which attracts thousands to the city every year, returned to Oxford yesterday (Monday, September 9) for two days.
Due to the fair St Giles road, which is located next to several of the University of Oxford’s college buildings, will be closed for around a two-day period from Monday (September 9) until 8am on Wednesday (September 11).
Renowned as one of the greatest and most prestigious fairs in the country, it traditionally takes place on the Monday and Tuesday after the first Sunday post-St Giles' Day.

Operating from 11am to 11pm, people of all ages enjoyed the wide range of stalls and rides
The fair began as a parish festival to celebrate the feast of the patron saint, St Giles.
In the 18th century St Giles’ Fair was a toy fair which then developed into a general children’s fair in the early 19th century.
