A weekend of events marked the start of Witney Feast 2024.

The 800-year-old tradition, originating in 1243, celebrates the opening of the ‘new’ St Mary’s Church in the town.

There was a day of Bavarian fun at the Oktoberfest Beer Festival on Saturday, a fun family event with local craft beer, German sausages and dancing in the aisles to an Oom-pah band.

Visitors included mayor Owen Collins and fine weather allowed revellers to move outside the church for part of the day.

On Sunday evening an unique service was held at the Golden Gallopers carousel on The Leys to bless the fair.

Set among the golden horses and cockerels of the carousel, hymns were played on a traditional fairground organ.

Earlier the Bishop of Sheffield led a formal civic service at St Mary’s attended by Mr Collins and other local dignitaries.

St Mary's also hosted an exhibition of photographs from members of the Witney Photo Group.

Bob Wilson's Funfair, one of the largest in the county, officially opened on Monday and ran until Tuesday.

On Monday afternoon and evening (September 16)  bakes and beer were available at St Mary’s Church.
