A half-sunk boat in Oxford continues to drop deeper into the River Thames.

The canal boat which has brown wood and white-painted features has been slowly sinking into the water for more than a year.

Visible moss can be spotted growing on the side of the vessel while the tarpaulin cover over the boat has turned green.

In April it was around halfway under the surface and is continuing to sink deeper with no intervention made in the past five months.

The Environment Agency (EA) has refused to comment on the status or owner of the boat despite being repeatedly approached by the Oxford Mail for an update.

Back in April, an EA spokesman said: “Sunken boats remain the responsibility of the owner.

“We would intervene where a sunken boat is blocking river traffic or presents a pollution or flood risk, but that is not the case here.

“We ask anyone who spots pollution or a potential blockage in a river to contact us on our 24-hour hotline, 0800 80 70 60.”
