Resurfacing work on Botley Road in Oxford is being rescheduled.

The work has been taking place this week close to the Waitrose store with traffic reduced to one lane as drivers wait for temporary traffic lights.

Oxfordshire County Council says it is now rescheduling the work due to "traffic issues".

Contractors will now undertake three night-time shifts instead of daytime working, starting from Monday, in order to carry out the necessary work and reduce disruption to the travelling public.

All work will take place between 8pm and 6am.

•  Monday, September 23 and Tuesday, September 24, the council will complete existing phases using single set of two-way temporary traffic lights
•  On Wednesday, September 25 the council will install two sets of temporary traffic lights, a set of three-way temporary traffic light across Binsey Lane and a two-way set at Lamarsh Road later in the shift.

This work is entirely separate to work being undertaken by Network Rail and Thames Water closer to the railway station.

Earlier this week Network Rail announced a fresh closure for a stretch of Botley Road between Abbey Road and Mill Street so that new trial holes can be dug near the rail station.

(Image: Andy Ffrench) The trial holes are needed to allow Thames Water to establish the viability of moving its water main connection point further west along Botley Road towards Osney bridge.

The road has been closed at the rail bridge since April last year as part of a £161m scheme to revamp the station.

In July, Network Rail announced the road will not reopen as planned at the end of October, and a series of options for the scheme are now being investigated in a review.
