A busy Cowley Road pub has reopened following a six figure investment, creating 12 new jobs.

The pub is now a part of Stonegate Group’s Social Pub and Kitchen, and the refurbishment has seen the group invest in a complete renovation inside the east Oxford hostelry, which is popular with students and other drinkers.

The pub was once known as The University and City Arms, and has always had a close connection with students, particularly those studying at Oxford Brookes.

All renovations have been carefully crafted to boost the pub’s goal of being a welcoming space for sports teams, societies and locals looking for a night out.

New décor has helped to revitalise the venue, which serves bar meals including a 'bottomless  brunch', as well as a range of ales, lagers and other drinks.

Whether it’s Premier League football, rugby, boxing, or Formula 1, the City Arms has it covered.

Pub staff say they are proud to be the go-to sports bar with every sporting event available to watch from every seat in the house.

Bookings are also available for this weekend’s big fight with Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois battling it out in a heavyweight blockbuster.

The pub is renowned for its student deals, offering alcoholic drinks starting at £3.75, burgers or pizza for just £6 and soft drinks starting at £2.25.

The bar has a big range of craft beer, world beers, cider, and cocktails to choose from and these can be enjoyed in front of one of the many big screens in the venue, with 2-4-1 cocktails available.

However, those not drinking alcohol will be able to choose from an extensive range of no and low alcohol options.

(Image: Stonegate) Jaden Knight, general manager of the City Arms, said: “These renovations align with Stonegate Group’s commitment to always improve and innovate, meaning we can give our guests the best possible experience at our beloved pub.

“We want the investment to position our pub as the place to be for students as well as being the premiere venue to watch sport in Oxford with a huge range of big screens and food and drink at competitive prices.

“With plans for future events like The Captain’s Brunch, which will bring together sports team captains for a unique networking event, we’re proud to be a community hub as well as a local pub.”
