An Oxfordshire MP has welcomed an announcement that the building of a long overdue GP surgery anticipated next year.

Olly Glover, Lib Dem MP for Didcot and Wantage, made the comments about Great Western Park in Didcot.

The 3,300-home estate is due to be finished in 2026 and was initially granted planning permission in 2008 with a surgery included.

Mr Glover said: “A priority is increasing the number of GPs to end the difficulties of getting an appointment, and a surgery for Didcot Great Western Park.”

Olly Glover (Image: Contributed) After meeting with the NHS Buckinghamshire Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB), Mr Glover welcomed the announcement that planning permission is expected to be submitted in the autumn.

Mr Glover added: “I feel we have made real progress with this announcement.

"There is still a long way to go but, now that time scales have been set, I will be pressing to ensure they are adhered to by all parties.

"I’d also like to acknowledge the work of the local Liberal Democrats whose tireless campaigning has helped us get to where we are now.”

BOB ICB has a webpage where it has been providing updates.

In a recent post, it said: “The historic delays in the Great Western Park Heath Centre project have been due to the multiagency involvement in the project, the legal complexities around developers’ contributions and the challenging economic circumstances that currently face all property developments.

"These complexities remain and may cause further slippage of the desired timeline.”
