A burglar was stopped in their tracks as they attempted to drive off with a householder's car after nabbing their set of keys during the early hours on the edge of Oxford.

Thames Valley Police has stated a home in the Old Botley area of Botley was targeted at around 1am today (September 20).

The suspect, whose gender has not been disclosed by police, was stopped before they had the opportunity to drive off with the vehicle having taken the keys from the home.

Police say the burglar was seen running along North Hinksey Lane after being spotted in the act of trying to seize the vehicle.

An appeal for witnesses has now been launched by the force this afternoon. 

Commenting on the incident, a spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Priority Crime Team, Abingdon, is appealing for any witnesses after an incident of burglary in Botley.

"A residential home has been entered whereby a set of car keys have been taken.

"A suspect was disturbed before they had the opportunity to steal the vehicle, and made off along North Hinksey Lane, Botley."
