Hugo Lovage is run by Michelin-trained pastry chef Cindy Kosmala who has worked with the likes of top chefs Philip Howard, Gordon Ramsay, Matt Abe and Clare Smyth and at London's Soho House, Chez Bruce and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

Hugo Lovage specialises in handcrafted patisserie and desserts, including macarons, eclairs, bavarois, cheesecakes and a range of other sweet treats.

Visitors can also dine in for a sumptuous afternoon tea.

The judges were particularly impressed by Ms Kosmala's extensive range of handmade desserts, which includes gluten free, vegan, and dairy free varieties, which are in demand with local cafés, hotels and other businesses.

Ms Kosmala, originally from South Africa, moved to the Cotswolds with her chef husband Hubert, in 2013, and they now have three children.

Mr Kosmala has just opened his first café in Burford, Thyme and Lovage, in Warwick Hall while the patisserie has been open since 2021.

“Burford has become more than just a home to us, now we have our own businesses in the town, the national awards, really are the, and excuse the pun, the icing on the cake,” she said.
