A major failing according to the inspector on the day was Smarts’ hygienic handling of food which was rated as needing 'improvement'.

This section of criteria includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of the food served.

Despite this shortcoming, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were rated as “generally satisfactory”.

Similarly, Smarts’ management of food safety was also seen as being “generally satisfactory” on the day of the inspection.

It also details whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
