A pub for sale for £1.2m has been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating.

The Maybush is one of two pubs at Newbridge on the River Thames, on the road between Abingdon and Witney.

The Rose Revived is the other popular pub close to the bridge on the A415.

The Maybush is now on the market with property agents Rightmove for more than £1m.

The Rightmove summary for The Maybush says: "The business has been sympathetically improved over the last decade and offers two very attractive trading areas.

"One of these is occupying the original pub, the other in a modern extension with considerable glazing which leads onto the decking and gardens overlooking the river.

The pub's latest food hygiene rating of five stars - the top rating - may help to attract prospective buyers.

The Food Standards Agency scheme gives businesses a rating from 5 to 0, which is displayed at their premises and online so diners make more informed choices about where to buy and eat food.

The five rating, awarded on September 10, indicates that hygiene standards are very good.

According to Rightmove, the original pub has an extension to the rear which overlooks the river.

The sale information says: "The main bar and dining room has a Cotswold tiled floor throughout. There is a fully equipped servery.

"The room has fixed upholstered wall seating, as well as loose high back rattan-style dining chairs, currently arranged for 40 diners.

(Image: Rightmove) "There is patio door access on to the decked dining area. On two sides of the room is a run of nine windows which provides an open aspect when the weather is suitable and this overlooks the river."

There are also several bedrooms for guests who want to stay overnight.

One of the pub's main attractions during the summer months is its large riverside gardens.

Rightmove adds: "There is an 'L' shaped decked area wrapping around the main bar. It stands immediately alongside the river and overlooks the famous bridge from which the village takes its name.

"There is quality timber seating for 40 or so customers which extends to the dining space during the summer months.

"The lawns extend down to the river. There is a marquee and further seating in two areas including a further raised, decked area adjacent to the second kitchen providing seating for a further 200 customers."
