A vintage clothes business has opened a new store at Oxford’s Covered Market.

Birmingham-born Ade King has been running Again Garments at Gloucester Green since the Covid pandemic.

After proving to be a hit in the markets, the brand is now opening up a second location at the Covered Market.

The new place began with a soft opening last week and is now open six days a week with business going well so far.

“We have opened up and already we’re getting customers and it's being received well,” said Mr King.

The 50-year-old has gone into the new venture with his 21-year-old son Alfie as well as Chloe, his 26-year-old business partner.

As a trio, they hope to offer something different at the two Oxford locations in time but for now, the plan is to operate the same business in both spots.

“I have gone into a collective with my son and assistant because I feel they can bring something different to Oxford,” explained Mr King.

“There is a desire for a more curated style and it was serendipitous that the Covered Market spot popped up.

“There will be a crossover between the two spots because we have just seized the moment and moved into the space.

“We are doing what we do in Gloucester Green here and then we’ll get feedback from the customers and curate it as we go.”

Being in a professional team with Alfie has been great fun for Mr King so far with the 50-year-old heaping on the praise for his younger colleagues.

“It is probably the greatest fun ever working with my son,” he said.

“I had an amazing moment of gratitude the other day working with them.

“Chloe is a great friend of mine as we have worked closely together for many years now.

“They’re unique and both have their own style and they are friendly, kind people which I think is the most important thing.

“At my age, I think it's great to hang around with my son but he probably won't agree with me.

“He brings a lot to the business as well as he does some graphic design work and he’s very aware culturally and style-wise.”

The team are grateful to be moved into their new spot as they put on the finishing touches throughout this week.

“We are just really privileged to be working here as I do love Gloucester Green and the vibe down there but up here you have to tip your hat to what the council has done reshaping this,” added Mr King.

“This is a really vibrant, cool hub now.

“It is like a flagship sort of area of Oxford and the place is older than America and to just be a short paragraph in the story of the city’s Covered Market is brilliant.
