The seven best boutique hotels in Oxford have been revealed by The Telegraph.

Places to stay are aplenty across the city but some spots are particularly luxurious for those visiting the historic location.

The Telegraph has compiled a list of the top seven hotels across the city with a couple of notable omissions.

Earning a score of 9/10, the Old Bank Hotel In High Street is highly praised by the newspaper with its illustrious history being mentioned.

Author Lewis Caroll banked at the spot but now it houses 43 luxury rooms, ranging from small doubles to large suites including The Room with the View overlooking the University Church.

Malmaison Oxford in New Road is another interesting building having been a prison in the past but now houses 95 guest rooms next to Oxford Castle.

Handed an 8/10 score, The Telegraph remarks how it makes an “instant impression” as the “one-of-a-kind hotel” spans a complex of tall 18th-century buildings.

The Old Parsonage Hotel in Banbury Road is also given an 8/10 score by the newspaper with its “country house charm” setting it apart from competitors.

With 43 rooms, the hotel also houses its very own library as well as portraits of famous local writers and artists decorating the walls.

A new addition to Oxford is The Store in Broad Street which makes the cut and is also housed in another historic building, the former Boswell & Co department store.

Handing a 7/10 score, The Telegraph describes it as “a welcome addition to the Oxford hotel scene” and commends its contemporary interiors and facilities including a spa, restaurant and rooftop.

Elsewhere, The Vanbrugh House Hotel on St Michael’s Street is given a higher score of 8/10 thanks to its overall design of two historic houses built in golden Cotswold stone.

With 22 individually styled bedrooms, the ground-floor suites also come with access to a private garden while the continental breakfast highlights local products.

Edwardian pub turned boutique hotel, The Porterhouse Grill & Rooms in Mill Street has been awarded an impressive 8/10 score by The Telegraph.

The steakhouse grill is a standout feature but the ark blue walls, brass light fittings, tan leather banquettes and wooden floors “define the décor” of this urban retreat.

The final entry on the list is The Tower House on Ship Street which is a Grade II-listed, 16th-century townhouse, featuring low ceilings, tight corridors and original stone floors.

Offering a score of 8/10, The Telegraph commends its eight guest rooms which are “furnished with vintage-style furniture and antiques” while flowers and freshly baked cookies await guests on arrival.

Notable omissions from the list include The Randolph Hotel in Beaumont Street which is given an 8/10 score in general as well as The Galaxie in Banbury Road which also achieves the same rating.
