Firefighters helped rescue a young girl who managed to get trapped inside her own bicycle in Oxford.

The incident happened near the underpass in Raleigh Park, Hinksey, yesterday (Wednesday, October 17).

Grace, a 13-year-old girl, slipped off her bike which resulted in her ankle being trapped between the pedal and the bike frame.

After trying to free Grace's ankle themselves, her parents then called 999 where Red Watch from Rewley Road Fire Station arrived and used specialist cutting equipment to release the girl.

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Well done to Grace for putting on a brave face whilst firefighters cut her free."

Firefighter Price added: “As the nights are drawing in and the weather has been wet and cold the roads and pavements are getting slippy.

“Please be cautious and wear helmets and fitted lights when travelling by bike.”
