A derelict former playground in Kidlington could have new homes built on it if plans are approved.

Applicant Ede Holdings Ltd has applied to build six homes on the site at Morton Close.

The scheme, which has been submitted to Cherwell District Council, includes open space, landscaping and parking.

The site was previously the subject of a planning application for nine homes, submitted last year, but this was withdrawn.

Morton Close plans (Image: Cherwell District Council) By Monday, October 21, no public comments had been submitted in objection or support.

In the scheme's planning statement, it said: “The proposed development has been informed by a scheme which was previously submitted for the site in November 2023 (23/03351/F), for a total of nine dwellings.

“After undergoing consultation, the application was subsequently withdrawn to address the consultee’s comments and views of the case officer.

“A car parking area is located to the southwest of the site, providing one space per dwelling, plus one visitor space.

"Cycle storage for all plots is located adjacent to the access, in the southern corner of the site.

“The site has been historically occupied as a small area of play space associated with Morton Close, but this use ceased in 2019, due to the open space being unmanaged and overgrown.

"Due to falling into a state of disrepair, giving rise to health and safety concerns, the site is gated and inaccessible to any members of the public.”
