The public has been warned to stay away from an Oxfordshire beauty spot amid a flood warning.

People have been advised by Witney Town Council to avoid Witney Lake and Country Park due to flooding risks.

The governing body put out a warning across social media this morning (Wednesday, October 23) alerting locals to the path being difficult to spot due to the water around the area.

A spokesperson for Witney Town Council said: “The flooding at the Witney Lake and Country Park has been reported by our Biodiversity and Green Spaces officer as extremely high and fast-running water that is above wellie-level.

“This situation makes the path difficult to differentiate from the surrounding bodies of water. We strongly advise against visiting the lake during this time until the flooding subsides.”
