A road is closed temporarily this week so that works to install a new toucan pedestrian crossing can take place.

Howes Lane in Bicester has been closed to all motor vehicles from 7pm until 11pm since Tuesday, October 22.

This closure is anticipated to be in place until Friday, October 25.

Suggested alternative routes are the B4030, A41, A4421, and A4095.

Oxfordshire County Council said the closure will be in place to "facilitate plane existing carriageway, resurface and white line to facilitate the new toucan pedestrian crossing".

The council previously said the crossing will provide many benefits, including "providing safe access for pedestrians and cyclists".

A spokesperson said: "The crossing will form a key link to an employment site that is already being built, providing safe access for pedestrians and cyclists travelling from Bicester town centre and elsewhere until the existing Howes Lane is realigned to the new developments."
