Oxford rock band Lunar Kites is hoping its debut single will be a hit on Earth - and beyond.

'Interstellar Shout', which is set for release on Tuesday (November 5), was inspired by the mission of NASA’s Voyager 2 space probe, which was launched in 1977.

Guitarist Tim Masters, who lives near Harwell, said: "The song is a love letter to scientific achievement and human ingenuity."

"Harwell is the hub of the British space industry, so we're sure we’ll find plenty of fans there."

The band also consists of Roger Bowley on bass, Andrew Findlay on drums, Jason Foster on guitar, and Antonio Serrano on vocals.

Formed in 2023, the band spent much of this year at Warehouse Studios in Kennington working on a galaxy of original songs about space exploration, dystopian futures, distant moons, and Earth-bound pollution.

The single will be released on all streaming platforms, along with a video on YouTube.

Masters added: "We sent the song to NASA headquarters.

"We know they’ve had a listen, but I think their reply must have got lost in space."

The band’s next gig is at The Handle Bar in Oxford on Monday, November 16 as part of the Oxford City Festival.
