Banbury is preparing to remember those who have lost their lives at war this Remembrance Sunday.

The event will take place from 10am to 2pm on November 10, starting outside the town hall.

A military parade will be followed by a service at St Mary's Church and a wreath-laying ceremony in the park.

Attendees are expected to gather outside town hall from 10am, where the military parade will depart and journey up the high street towards St Mary's Church.

Here, a service will be held to remember the many troops who lost their lives throughout recent conflicts.

The high street and roads surrounding Banbury Cross have been decorated with poppies and posters highlighting poems, maps, and images of war, paying tribute to servicemen from across the armed forces.

The poppies seen on lamp posts up and down the high street have a number of names written on them.

They are those of British troops who lost their lives during World War One and World War Two.

They have been added to the poppies by a number of schools from across Banbury, as well as many members of the cadet groups.

Banbury residents have supported Remembrance Sunday since its inception more than a century ago, with the town's ceremonies taking place for many decades.

It remains an "extremely popular" event, the town council said, with hundreds often in attendance.

A spokesperson for the council added: "With instability and uncertainty around the world, Banbury Town Council believes it is more important than ever before to remember the past so that similar grave decisions and the losses that they cause are avoided in the future."

As well as those who died in both world wars, Remembrance Sunday is an opportunity to remember all members of the armed forces who have died fighting for their country.

This includes those who lost their lives in the Falklands War and the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, among others.

The spokesperson said the town council "looks forward to welcoming all residents to join in this momentous and poignant occasion, which is sure to give everyone an opportunity to reflect on, and pay tribute to, those that gave their lives to keep this country and its freedoms preserved for future generations".

The event has been supported by the Royal Air Force, the British Army, The Royal Navy, Oxfordshire Army Cadet Force, Thames Valley Police, Sea Cadets Banbury, and others.
