Proposals for a 400-home development in an Oxfordshire town have been lodged.

Developers Mactaggart and Michael (Mac Mic Group) has requested an environmental-impact assessment from West Oxfordshire District Council of the proposed site on four fields at Curbridge Downs Farm off Burford Road in Witney.

An adjacent site already has permission for 270 homes following an appeal in 2018.

The application states the site will contain potential retirement units and self-build plots and recreational pitches will separate some sections within the development.

Vehicle access will be from two new access points to be created off Burford Road and there is "potential to connect into the National Cycle Network" via these and additional pedestrian and cycle access points, say planning documents.

Developers state "over half of the site" will be open space, play areas, allotments, an orchard and green corridors.

The scheme also aims to "retain the grassland margins and extend these where possible to retain areas with greater biodiversity".

If the developers want to proceed with the scheme, a further planning application will need to be submitted and considered in due course by the district council's planning committee.
