The Conservatives have won the Witney Central seat on Witney Town Council from Labour.

A by-election was held after Labour councillor Lisa Cherry resigned due to ill health.

Results were Abdul Mubin (Conservative) 437, Yvonne Robineau (Labour) 299, Scott Wills (Liberal Democrats) 180, Ed Rolison (Green) 56.

Springfield Oval resident Mr Mubin said: "I am so pleased to be elected by the residents of Witney Central to be their new town councillor.

"Standing for election is quite an experience but I am now really looking forward to getting stuck in and making a difference for our community.

"Thank you to everyone who voted, I really appreciate it."

David Edwards-Hughes, Conservative group leader at Witney Town Council, said: "I think it's great that Witney Central residents have elected a brilliant guy like Abdul to represent them.”

The town council now falls into no overall control with Labour losing the majority as both Labour and the Conservatives each have eight town councillors, and the Green Party has one councillor.
