Motorists are being urged to avoid a major Oxfordshire road this afternoon after a serious multi-vehicle crash. 

The A34 southbound is closed near Didcot between the junctions for Milton and Chilton. 

The northbound carriageway was also held to allow an air ambulance to land.

Diversions are in place as all emergency services are at the scene. 

In a message on the National Highways website, it said: “The A34 in Oxfordshire is closed southbound between the A4130 (Didcot) and A4185 (Chilton) following a serious collision.

“All emergency services are working at the scene with Thames Valley Police leading the response. 

“The northbound carriageway has been held to allow the air ambulance to land at the scene. 

“National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene to assist with traffic management.”

In a post on X, TVP Roads Policing said: "The A34 southbound carriageway between Milton and Chilton is currently closed following a serious RTC. The road is likely to remain closed for some time, and drivers are asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes. Got info? Call 101 quoting 855 (20/11)."

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended and said in a statement: "Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance confirmed that the air ambulance team of two doctors and a specialist paramedic were deployed by helicopter to an incident in Didcot on Wednesday November 20."
