A man has been jailed for 20 weeks after stealing more than £2,500 worth of food and drinks from Oxford shops. 

Alexander Gibbs, of no fixed abode, was charged with 33 counts of theft committed between August 24 and November 7 this year, a court heard. 

Gibbs, 41, pleaded guilty to all of the charges at Oxford Magistrates' Court on November 13. 

The total value of the items stolen was £2,695.54.

A breakdown of the charges is as follows. 

  • On September 5 he stole cider worth £8.25 from Tesco. 
  • On November 5 he stole meat and wine worth £60 from Co-op. 
  • On October 22 he stole wine, meat and chocolate worth £70.70 from Co-op. 
  • On October 13 he stole wine and chocolate worth £47.65 from Co-op. 
  • On October 27 he stole wine worth £26.75 from Co-op. 
  • On October 30 he stole groceries and wine worth £96.95 from Co-op. 
  • On October 14, he stole wine worth £146.55 from Co-op. 
  • On October 23 he stole boxes of chocolate worth £86.35 from Co-op. 
  • On October 25 he stole a basket full of wine worth £127.95 from Co-op. 
  • On October 20 he stole wine worth £98.70 from Co-op. 
  • On October 5 he stole wine worth £124.45 from Co-op.
