Two Oxford leisure centres are set to become the first in the UK to introduce new, AI-powered gym technology.

On Friday, November 29, the Ferry Leisure Centre and Leys Pools and Leisure Centre will introduce EGYM Genius, a system that provides customers with personalised training plans.

The technology is powered by the EGYM Fitness Hub, a single device that ensures quick and contactless onboarding to Genius.

Based on the person’s fitness level, goals, and training preferences, EGYM Genius generates a tailored workout programme.

Once an individual has input their data and performed a strength test on the EGYM Smart Strength machines, they will receive personalised training plans that are tailored to their gym and its range of equipment.

Brian Taylor, chair of More Leisure Community Trust, which operates five leisure facilities in partnership with Serco Leisure, and on behalf of Oxford City Council, said: "We’re very excited to be the UK’s first gyms to offer this amazing, cutting-edge technology.

"Customers are going to love EGYM Genius. They’ll enjoy the simplicity of the set-up process, but most of all they’re going to truly love the personalised nature of the guidance it provides.

"We are confident this new technology will support our customers on their individual health and wellbeing journeys."

"It leverages approximately 410 million assessment data points (fitness tests and measurements) to generate precise recommendations for personalised and motivating training plans, perfectly tailored to each member's experience level and training goals.

"We’re delighted to take another significant step towards preventative, health-oriented training in Oxford."

Councillor Chewe Munkonge, cabinet member for a healthy Oxford, added: "We’re thrilled to see Oxford at the forefront of fitness innovation with this exciting high-tech equipment launch at Ferry and Leys.

"At Oxford City Council, we're committed to promoting health and wellbeing across our community, supporting active lifestyles and ensuring Oxford residents can access personalised, effective, and engaging fitness experiences."

Leys Pools and Leisure Centre and Ferry Leisure Centre, alongside Barton Leisure Centre, are also currently running a Black Friday promotion, which offers new and returning customers the chance to "join now, pay nothing ‘til January".

The centre's are also offering three personal training sessions for £35, which represents a 40 to 50 per cent discount on normal prices.
