RAF Brize Norton is asking people to report drones as suspicious activity has been reported around US bases across the UK.

The base, in Carterton, posted online: "We encourage you report anything unusual, specifically drone activity, within the RAF Brize Norton Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ).

"Within this area it is illegal to fly any Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) without permission from Air Traffic Control or Station Operations."

A number of unidentified drones have been spotted over three airbases, the United States Air Force (USAF) has confirmed.

The incidents, which occurred between Wednesday and Friday, saw "small unmanned aerial systems" spotted over RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall, in Suffolk, and RAF Feltwell in Norfolk.

According to Sky News, drones have also been seen above RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

An MoD spokesperson said: “We take threats seriously and maintain robust measures at defence sites.

"We are supporting the US Air Force response.”

Around 60 British troops, including counter-drone specialists, have been drafted in to help the US Air Force find out who is responsible.
