PRZEMYSLAW Placheta believes the style of play at Oxford United will get the best out of him as he gears up for his fifth season in English football.

The 26-year-old Poland international winger signed for the U’s earlier this month after a short-term deal with Swansea City expired earlier in the summer.

Placheta joined Norwich City for a reported £2.5 million in July 2020, playing 61 times, including 12 games in the Premier League, while his stay with the Canaries included a loan stint with Birmingham City.

He left Carrow Road and linked up with Swansea in February, playing 10 times, with eight of those starts.

Placheta said: “I’m the player who likes to take on and go forward offensively to attack the space and attack the defensive line of the opponent.

“I’m a quick player and I like to play one v one, and deliver the ball. I’ve come here to bring my strongest sides, and hopefully I can help the team achieve success.

“It will be my fifth year here, in the Championship and one in the Premier League. I feel good, and I wanted to stay in the Championship.

“I know this league, it’s really tough and we need to be prepared mentally. If we’re well-prepared during this time in pre-season, I’m sure we will be successful.”

Placheta also revealed how important conversations with United head coach Des Buckingham were in helping him make up his mind when it came to choosing a new club.

He said: “The talks between me and the gaffer here showed me the way that he wants to play with the wingers.

“I really like it. I can suit the style, and it made me feel really good. I’m really pleased that I’m here and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans.

“There were a few clubs interested, but after this conversation with the gaffer, I decided that this place is right for me, and that I want to be here.”

Although primarily a left winger, Placheta has been known to play left back, although it’s not a position he sees himself playing his best football.

He said: “I feel the best I can show is as a winger, but of course, if the manager wants me to play left back, then I will.

“I’m not sure the position is for me. I tried it at Norwich, but after that, the manager brought me onto the wing.

“At Swansea, I showed that I’m a proper winger, and the goal for me this season is to bring up my stats. I will do my all to prove that.”

Placheta made his international debut as Poland beat Ukraine 2-0 in a friendly in November 2020, while he appeared once at the delayed European Championships in 2021, as Poland lost 3-2 against Sweden.

In total, Placheta has won seven caps for his country, the last of which came in November 2021. He wasn’t named in the squad for either the 2022 World Cup or this summer’s Euros.
